The Lexical approach method.

"LEXICAL APPROACH"
What i liked of  the method I talked is that everything is focused on speaking, how to use the proper native target language in order to have good pronunciation, a vast vocabulary of your target language. the most important point in this method is that the teachers that apply this method teach you the target language with the famous "chunks", word combinations, collocations and also Idiomatic expressions.

the main objective in this method is that you as a student will be able in the future to speak as a native-like

what i dont like of this method is that teachers are only focused in speaking, they dont care about important things in english like grammar, good writing or things like those, i think that is one of the most bigger Cons that this method has, because as you can see english in our case is our target language and we need to develop some skills, Writing, Speaking, Listening, Reading. thats the problem.

i think that the teachers have to make a combination of these methods in order to improve pupil's learning.

"Cognitive Approach"
what i  liked of this method is that we as learners use our mental activities in order to understand and connect concepts.
when we talk about cognition, we refer to those mental activities for example; thinking, remembering and learning.

this are those mental activities that help us to memorize the concepts in certain subejcts...

but what i did not like of this method is that students use this mental activities but i think they only improve their short-term-memory, and that's a big problem. For instance, you will have a test next week, you study, you learn some concepts by hearth, and of course, those concepts will be usefull for you at the time you do the test, but some days later you will forget about the concepts. so in my oppinion thats a big problem of this method!!....
Thanks!!

  1. Hello Gio, I really liked the method you submitted because it is really useful for us to learn and understand idiomatic expressions , and for any student who is learning a target language. Moreover, we know that the use of idiomatic expressions appear in every language as I understand because in our case Spanish has a lot of that, so I think teachers must make understand students that we can give a message using other words.
Talking about the cognitive approach, I think it is useful but in my case i'm not a tracket of that method because sometimes you tend to forget many things if you limit your brain only to memoriza. For me, it is better relate the target language with daily routines, speaking, or talking many things about our real life.
    Good blog Gio.

  4. Outstanding job, Mr. Gio. What I can highlight from the Lexical Approach Method is that this method is totally focused on giving the students the best tools to communicate with as natural as possible the target language. With the great use of idiomatic expressions and word collacations students are going to be more competent to speak the target language. Nevertheless, this method lacks of drilling other skills that are pretty important when learning a new language and ,similarly, other methods lack of many important skills that should be developed when teaching a target language.
Regarding what you said about having a method in which teachers can make a mixture of the best sides of every single method, I think that the eclectic method is the best method to be taught for pupils learning a target language because it aims teachers to do the best activities in the classroom for getting students the best contents as well as techniques.
